I did not expect to see any butterflies this morning what with the weather being overcast with dark clouds. I just managed to take a few shots of this Small Skipper and a couple of others. Also out and about Buzzards soaring high, Swallows,Whitethroats, Goldfinch and a very brief climps of a Green Woodpecker. Not a bad morning at all.

This rather delightful Caterpillar was found by a young boy out riding his bike with his parents. I was fortunately walking past as I saw the commotion the Drinker curled up in the boys hand and then was placed on the ground. I waited for around a quarter of an hour for him to finally unfurl and creep along its way...

Out and about on Saturday I found these two girlies a Common female blue and a Female Pheasant.

A family out for a cycle ride on the track found this first I found one around this time last year I will add more soon.

It was good to get out and about Sunday. Better photo of the Whitethroat would of been nice but the Yellow Wagtail and the Fun Guy Spore made up for it.

Step up and beyond

Evidence of times past

A walk in the afternoon sunshine was a welcome treat. Plenty of birds could be seen and heard, a Red tailed kite was seen in the distance, a Buzzard was being chased away by crows away from there nests. Also I found evidence of times past with the weighty track couplings to the side of the walkway.

Unfortunately the steps are gone I think the view would of been amazing

The frosty morning left me undaunted to go to Draughton crossing which is close to Maidwell village to take some shots of this magnificent piece of architecture that remains as a monument to a once great time when railways were kings of transport.
A chance meeting with a couple walking there dogs revealed a time of when steam trains once graced this line. The gentleman explained how he grew up in Maidwell and as a boy used to watch steam trains trundle by and how he would stand at the top of the bridge waiting for a train to pass under engulfing him in steam. It made me very very jealous

 January still remains to be dormant except for a few offerings of mushrooms and fungus. But it is still a recreational retreat for cyclists, dog walkers and me and Mrs B.

Fieldfare



The recent snow lured me away from warm living room to take some photos. Fieldfare and Redwing are now in great flocks in the scurry from tree to tree. Kestrels also hover above from time to time. A walk through Oxendon tunnel as always is a dark unforgiving place but can produce a nice frame to the outside.
